Support for Hospital Stays

Hospital stays are stressful and physically demanding. You can feel alone, isolated from the rest of the world. While there is no way to make a hospital stay easy, we do try to help.

Bravery Bags (TM): MLH DC gives Bravery Bags to families in the hospital for a surgery or other visit. The Bravery Bag includes practical items that are helpful during the stay, like toothbrushes, soap, etc. While these practical items may help make a stay easier, the real value of the Bravery Bag is that it lets families know they are not alone. There’s a community out there thinking about them; a community that they can always connect with if they want.

Toys and entertainment / Bravery Chest: We provide Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC) and Inova Fairfax with toys for their Bravery Chests, which they give to children who are admitted into the hospital or having a procedure. We also provide wagons and ride-on toy cars for kids, so they can get out of their hospital beds for fresh air.

Hospital breakfasts: On occasion, you may see us at CNMC or Inova Fairfax dropping off a free breakfast for the pediatric cardiac patients and their families. Our volunteers stay with the breakfast and talk to the patients and families to let them know they are not alone.

We can always use donations of goods for the bravery bags or volunteers for hospital breakfasts. If you are interested, please contact us!
